Well, this is my first day of my "sabbatical." (See below)
noun
a period of paid leave granted to a teacher for study or travel, traditionally every seventh year: "she's away on sabbatical."
No one mentioned I get to do this again in 2022!!!
While my students, colleagues, & staff are off on Spring Break, I get the opportunity of a lifetime staying in beautiful Vernon Hills and wondering what opportunities will unfold these next few months.
No classes today, so the day started "sleeping in"- A favorite past time of many teachers. It occurs so rarely. Another rarity - one that I intend of accomplishing every day during this time of reinvigoration-Goal 1 READING. I read 2 chapters of "The Life of Jesus Christ - Love.Life. Message. Mission" by Mike Woodruff of Christ Church, Lake Forest, a book 6 congregations are reading throughout the Easter season.
Wait! Just received a very important phone call- "Your new washing machine will be delivered between the hours of 10:30-12:30. Be home." K!
What a perfect time to begin my blog. Goal 2- BLOG
(Remind me again why I am doing this...I was an Art major after all?) And reading last year's GA recipient John Paulett's blog, English Teacher extraordinaire- for inspiration...
http://goldenapplesabbatical.blogspot.com/
something struck instead...
FEAR
Where to begin? How to begin? What do I do now? I can't do this!!
...Hey wait a second, all of these words sound familiar! I have heard them for the past 36 years as a teacher and now I am saying them to myself? Do yah think this is how student's feel in my class every day? Insightful.
My own advise to students...BEGIN ANYWHERE.
That is here, learning how to blog in the first place - new experiences are always hard. "No challenge, no change."
The "washing machine men" just came, 12:30 of course, and it is installed
So next on my agenda ...I am off to my classroom at HMSS. During sabbatical??? Yes, to get my room "more ready" for my substitute and mat student's projects, unpack art materials, and organize the room so he will be able to make a seamless transition... more about "my issue" in next Monday's blog!
